2016 May Go Down as the Year of the GaGa
Fresh off her Golden Globe win last Sunday Lady Gaga has officially earned her first Oscar nomination with ‘Til It Happens to You’ from the campus sexual assault documentary The Hunting Ground.
Early this morning (Jan. 14) the official nominations for the upcoming Academy Awards were announced live and Gaga is up against some steep competition. All first-time nominees, Gaga will go head-to-head with fellow superstars The Weeknd and Sam Smith. Smith, who won last week at the Golden Globes, may be her stiffest competition since he already has a win under his belt. Gaga shares her nomination with seven-time Best Original Song nominee Diane Warren, so we know she has a fighting chance at that golden guy!

The ever-humble songstress took to her social media to show her immense appreciation for the nomination.
“This nomination lends a voice to so many victims and their families around the world. Thank you to The Academy for recognizing the movement of people who have come together around ‘The Hunting Ground’ and “Til It Happens To You” in the name of sexual assault. Diane Warren and I are simply honored to represent the voices of so many survivors”
If Gaga wins she is one step closer to that ever-rare EGOT, which only a special few are able to attain in their time in the spotlight. Gaga also recently announced her new album would be coming sometime this year.
